This a lengthy video (11 minutes), but clearly describes what happens to a child’s brain when trauma is experienced and why traumatic events can result in a number of behavioral, emotional and cognitive challenges, including learning difficulties. Of note, “trauma” doesn’t necessary relate only to abuse, but can also occur from the loss of a loved one, tense divorce situation, separation, a big move and events (car accident, witness to violence, etc.), to name a few examples.
